In Time

December 31, 2011

Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich “earn” decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.

This film guys. Now, I’m not Justin Timberlakes biggest fan, but in his most recent films I’ve began to feel like singing wasnt his calling, its by far acting. I wasnt expecting much from this film but it blew me away. It’s quite a dark storyline for the human race anyway. Still running along the lines of people always trying to get more of a currency, in this films case it’s time.

Also, Cillian Murphy is in it, why wouldn’t you want to give this film a watch?

Apollo 18: Just No

December 29, 2011

Space films are my favourite kind of film. I can’t really explain why, but when they are done right (and right being that showing on screen how empty space is as well as how it would make you feel if you were in a dire situation millions of miles from Earth) they are flawless. Now, let me talk to you about Apollo 18. I didn’t go to see this in the cinema because I wasnt a fan of Cloverfield. The whole recording first person kinda film doesn’t do it for me, so I waited for it to come out on DVD and for someone other than me to buy it so I can ask them if I could borrow it.

Did anyone else switch on the movie and within 30 minutes of watching just about work out that it was going to be aliens? I mean, c’mon it was just silly. It was good in the sense of EVERYTHING but the storyline. The effects, camera work and editing I loved and would like to adapt some of those styles into my own work, but the storyline was diabolical.

I still think that the best space movie out there at the moment is Sunshine. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, but still, it’s a damn good film. It’s a shame that the director of Sunshine let himself down when he made 127 Hours a.k.a “Watch This Dude For 2 Hours”

Happy Birthday: I’m Now 21

December 24, 2011

Today is my birthday. I am now 21 years old, and have successfully survived to the last “major” mile stone (at least for the next 9 years).
Wishes? I keep getting told by my mother that I’m too old for stockings and by my grandma I’m too old for getting a pound in my Christmas pudding, but I think I could make a few if they aren’t stupid right? I’m even going to tell you what they are.

1) 2012 to be a better year.  No, I’m not being depressing or anything silly like that. I just feel like 2011 from start to end has been a massive struggle financially, mentally, and emotionally. I wont go into detail, all I want is for 2012 to hold a bit more excitement and positivity. Not only from people around me but for me to be more positive when something happens because I know its my style to come out of something shit smelling like roses.

2) Graphic Design. I’m really hoping that over the next year or so my graphic design kicks off. I have no qualifications in graphic design, but from all the good feedback I receive about the work I do I don’t see why I should differ from the people who spent that extra year in school learning it. I hope I get given the chance to work for a company in graphic design and be working in an industry I’m really going to like because lets face it, retail sucks.

3) Iron Man Costume. I would pay a large amount of money to be in possession of an Iron Man suit. The exact same as the Mark 3 Tony Stark has. If I had one of these, I wouldn’t need to use public transport in Manchester, no one would mess with a dude in an iron suit and I would also become the local super hero.

I think I deserve that right?

P.S. I’ve noticed how camp I look in the photo shoot picture I did earlier this month. Next time I do a photo shoot for fun, I’ll put more explosions, meat, and guns in it.

The Hobbit: Official Trailer

December 21, 2011

The official trailer for The Hobbit.
I’m not going to lie… when I saw this I made a very big mess in my room and throughout the whole thing I was having tingles throughout my body.

Military Five-Star generals going nuts!
George Dawe was an English portrait artist who painted 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Replace Face is an awesome Tumblr,  he uses digital copies of these paintings as a basis for his own work which involves incorporating his friends, family and even some celebrities into the paintings using photoshop.

“One thing I’ve always wanted to try (I have a list) is to incorporate someone into a painting, mimicking the painterly brush strokes and making everything fit and work nicely and look natural and stuff. There’s an art to head swapping, I’ve seen so many awful attempts. The most important things to consider are anatomy, perspective and lighting. If you can get those things right, you’re more than halfway there. My artistic ability serves me well with this stuff…

29 Ways to Stay Creative

December 20, 2011

I think if more people used these rules, a lot more work would be done. I’ve actually saved this to my desktop and turned to it when I have nothing to do and even if I just pick one to do, I always get something done and end up getting good feedback. I advise everyone to do it, but again, a lot of people are a lot lazier than me haha.

This is mainly aimed at students but I think this magazine could have a large reader base if we continue. Anyway, this is the advert, and I hope you’re looking forward to the final thing.

Video Vs Audio

December 15, 2011

Being a media student I think I should at least write one post about this.

Audio has such a profound effect on our daily lives as well as in film. Now, I know it sounds cheesy but have you noticed how when you’re sad, you will listen to sad music. Sometimes to the point of nearly bringing you to tears? You run your own little music video to said song of how you would do something different, or relive something but it never happens. Or when you’re really happy or getting ready to go out you listen to music which can only go with how you’re feeling? Without music, I think that our daily lives would be oh so boring.

In film audio is an amazing effect. I was so fascinated with this that myself and my room-mate went to the extent of going on YouTube, finding a scene from a film, muting the audio and then finding a song that will fit (or a trailer). Doing this can completely change how a trailer is interpreted. Go onto YouTube and play your favourite movie trailer and then your favourite song and I bet it looks completely different. Sometimes it may look so much better with a song you chose (happened a few times with me).

With the films I make I’m going to put just as much dedication into sound production as I do the filming. I want both sides to be perfect.
